DIRECTOR

As Director of SSCL, Bernie works with the wider team of SSCL consultants to provide ILS Governance, Support and Training Services for the Directorate of Supply Chain Management (DSCM) of the New Zealand Defence Force (NZDF) under a current contract engagement. Bernie has undertaken several capability and establishment reviews for industry, including the recommendation and implementation of Supply Chain capability, including the implementation of an enterprise resource planning (ERP) system for a Fletcher subsidiary.

Bernie is a past Chair of the New Zealand Defence Industry Association (DIA) and has represented Industry on the NZ Government Procurement Reform Strategy Group. Bernie assisted with the production of the 2014 Ministry of Defence Paper, Optimising New Zealand Industry Involvement in the Defence Sector, as a member of an Expert Advisory Group, and was appointed by the Minister of Defence to the Defence Industry Advisory Council (DIAC). In his role as Chair of NZDIA Bernie worked closely with NZDF, supporting its initiatives to change the way NZDF relates to industry and turn around frequently poor contractual relationships and adversarial mindsets. Bernie has served on the Australasian Advisory Board of the International Association of Contract and Commercial Management (now World Commerce & Contracting), a not-for-profit global best practice research and professional development organisation with 43,000 corporate and individual members. Bernie has a postgraduate Diploma of Business, Operations Management from Auckland University and attended an advanced negotiation training programme at the Harvard Business School.

Since the establishment of SSCL in 2005, Bernie has been committed to ensuring sustainability for both customers and suppliers. His focus is to provide consulting services that assist clients to stand-up leading-edge commercial and contract management capability.
